What Anjl Learned from BrushCapades
In the past few years, BrushCapades has become a unique team building solution for corporate teams, and inspired connectedness and play during the pandemic. As many companies transitioned to remote work, maintaining a strong culture took intentional, deliberate effort. Coworkers weren’t catching up at the office anymore, water cooler talk took nearly a two-year hiatus, and the joy of bumping into friends throughout the day was replaced with being socially distanced, worried, and stuck at home.
Today, effective team building remains more important than ever. Corporate events with a meditative or therapeutic quality, like BrushCapades, serve as a relaxing, engaging, and social distraction. As teams began to connect and engage once again through BrushCapades, it came to Anjl’s attention that she had another issue: the “traditional” bounds of what it meant to be a student.
The “Why” in Her Work
Everyone, at some point, was taught something that limited their creative expression – and many of us heard teachers telling us no from a young age — Anjl’s mission is to deconstruct this false idea. Her favorite thought to share with her students is, “If Van Gogh and Andy Warhol were sitting in the same class, their paintings wouldn’t have looked the same, and that’s what we want!”
Since starting BrushCapades, sharing that positive message and shifting the narrative has become just as important as the art itself. This mission continues to drive Anjl in other exciting pursuits, as well. When she’s not teaching painting classes to major companies like Disney, Wells Fargo, or Microsoft, you can find Anjil on your next favorite podcast, speaking engagement, or destination event.
