These words by author and professor Leo Buscaglia continue to be a driving force for BrushCapades founder, Anjl Rodee. In a fast-paced society that idolizes the grind of corporate success, we often lose sight of slowing down to reset and connect with ourselves. Inspired by the wisdom and teachings of Buscaglia, Anjl incorporates his ideas to empower each and every class.
Who is Leo Buscaglia?
In the mid-1960s, Leo Buscaglia was a professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Southern California. Deeply affected by a student's suicide, Buscaglia made it his life's work to combat human disconnectedness and the societal fear of perceived failure.
"The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises."
This concern for society and desire to bring joy and affection to those around him led to creating a non-credit class titled 'LOVE 1A'. This no-grade course provided an inclusive platform for open student-led discussions. It focused on bringing "hope to the lost and love to the lonely.”

Inspired by Buscaglia's wisdom and teachings, Anjl has continued on the path of creating a space for professionals to experience the artistic process and enter Buscaglia's world of love and connection. Through her classes, Anjl creates an environment that fosters creativity, encourages laughter, and sometimes even a bit of vulnerability.
